1) Manuscript Mechanics: The Absolute Basics
1) Manuscript Mechanics: The Absolute Basics
Have you wondered just how to get started--really started? What's the proper margin and how is it set? Which type fonts are acceptable and which aren't? How do I get the paragraphs and tabs set? What do you mean by "formatting"? We'll walk you through submission guidelines, and how to get your manuscript into document forms many publishers request.
~ OR ~
2) Pitch Perfect: Creating Log Lines and Pitches You have your manuscript mostly or completely written and polished to diamond brilliance. Now you need to get someone to look at it. We will help you learn how to boil your storyline into a single catchy log line and winning pitch to entice agents, editors, and/or publishers or offer you that contract.
Noon — 12:55pm: ~ Lunch ~
(included with your registration )
1:00pm — 1:55pm: Hook 'Em on the First Page**
You only get a few seconds to grab a reader's attention and make them want to keep reading. Make that first paragraph such a mouth-watering appetizer that they'll devour the rest of the book. **EMAIL the first paragraph --Just the first PARAGRAPH only-- of your story with this form to GeckoGalsInk@comcast.net. The panel will read your paragraph and make recommendations on how to strengthen "the hook" without disclosing your identity.
2:00pm — 3:00pm: Sock it To Us: Pitch Your Idea to the Group
Everyone will get a chance to practice describing your story as a sales pitch to the class as potential readers. What appeals, what doesn't, how long, how short, too much, too little: we'll discuss and help you sharpen your skills to spark interest in whatever you write.
